About 'nutrition of coconut milk'|Nutrition Spotlight: Coconut Water








Ingredients
1               cup               of               uncooked               rice.
8               cups               of               water
4               extra               cups               of               water
Sweetener
Vanilla               Extract
Cheese               cloth               or               fine               mesh               sieve
Saucepan
Blender
Storage               container               Brown               rice               is               preferred               when               making               rice               milk               as               it               has               more               nutrition               than               white               rice.

To               make               the               rice               milk,               wash               the               rice               well               and               bring               it               to               a               boil               in               a               saucepan               with               8               cups               of               water.

If               you               chose               to               use               white               rice,               reduce               the               amount               of               water               to               4               cups.

When               the               rice               begins               to               boil,               lower               the               heat               and               let               it               simmer               until               cooked.

In               another               saucepan               bring               to               a               boil               the               extra               4               cups               of               water.
               Once               the               rice               is               cooked               to               the               point               of               being               a               little               mushy,               remove               it               from               the               stove,               and               start               blending               it               in               batches               with               the               hot               water.

In               a               blender,               pour               some               of               the               rice               mixture               and               some               of               the               hot               water               and               blend               until               you               have               a               smooth               mixture.

Set               aside               and               repeat               until               you               have               blended               all               the               rice.

At               this               point               you               can               add               in               some               maple,               corn               or               agave               syrup               or               sugar               as               desired               for               sweetening.

For               a               more               nutritious               milk,               put               some               nuts               like               cashews               and               almonds               when               blending               the               mixture.

You               can               also               grate               in               some               fresh               coconut               for               a               refreshing               taste.

Strain               the               mixture               through               cheese               cloth.

For               a               thicker               consistency,               strain               the               mixture               using               a               fine               mesh               sieve.

Cool               the               milk,               pour               it               into               the               storage               container               and               refrigerate.

This               milk               can               be               stored               for               up               to               three               days               in               the               refrigerator.
               Rice               milk               can               be               drank               as               a               chilled               drink               or               used               instead               of               cow               milk               to               make               tea               and               coffee.

Kids               will               enjoy               dunking               their               cookies               in               this               delicious               drink               or               using               it               for               cereal.

However,               if               this               milk               is               to               be               used               as               a               dietary               alternative               to               dairy,               you               may               also               want               to               add               a               liquid               calcium               supplement               to               fortify               it.

It               can               also               be               used               for               cooking               in               foods               like               mashed               potatoes,               and               creamy               soups.

Note               that               if               you               make               the               milk               for               this               purpose,               you               may               want               to               hold               off               on               the               vanilla               extract               and               sweetening               as               it               may               contrast               too               much               in               terms               of               taste.

When               baking               desserts,               you               can               substitute               with               this               milk               where               it               calls               for               cows               milk.

Use               equal               parts               of               rice               milk               to               the               amount               called               for               in               the               recipe.

To               make               smoothies,               just               blend               the               rice               milk               with               some               ice               and               your               choice               of               fruits.
